A quieter hour first
The Holiday Open House starts with a neurodiverse-friendly hour from 1 to 2 p.m., a calmer, more sensory-friendly time to visit. The full Holiday Open House runs from 2 to 4 p.m.
In the know
The Holiday Open House is free, and donations to the Welland Museum are always welcome. Parking is easy: the Welland Museum has a lot for visitors off Young Street, and there's street and metered parking nearby. The entrance is fully accessible, with an elevator just inside, and there's an accessible washroom in the Children's Gallery on the main floor.
The building has a story of its own. It went up in 1923 as Welland's Carnegie library, and the Welland Public Library stayed for 82 years before moving to Civic Square.
When the Holiday Open House wraps up, the Merry and Bright Santa Claus Parade sets off on East Main Street at 5 p.m. Read our blog on Welland's Merry and Bright Santa Claus Parade.
Floats, marching bands and costumed characters roll from Victoria Avenue to City Hall at 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 14th, followed by a Christmas tree lighting and a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus in Centennial Square.
Kids and teens read stories to gentle therapy dogs while giant board games fill the lounge. Therapy Tails & Giant Board Games is a drop-in evening at the Grimsby Public Library on four Tuesdays from November 10th to December 22nd.
A community ofrenda, live Mexican music, a costume contest, art and tamales at St. Catharines Market Square. The 6th annual Niagara Day of the Dead & Art Festival runs from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 8th.
